What is the best practice to hook devices (DVD, Satallite, VCR), Plasma TV & home theater receiver?
Jupiter asked:
1) Should I be running seperate cables to the plasma from DVD, Satallite receiver and VCR (I’ve to run component cables from DVD & sat receiver - and composite vedio cable from VCR because thats is what the output of my devices) and audio cables from these devices to Yamaha HTR6050 receiver.
2) The 2nd option is to run component and composite cables from devices to the reciever and then run single cable from Yamaha receiver to plasma TV. My plasma tv has one 29-pin DVI input where as Yahama receiver has 1 HDMI output (I’m assuming I can find HDMI to DVI cable …) In this case I think I’ve to run seperate audio cable from yamaha receiver to TV and then from receiver to home theater speakers.

Has anybody done research on such things earlier? Which option will give me better picture quality? My TV is 50” plasma with native resolution of 1366×768
Thanks a bunch for reply.

What is the difference between a Plasma and a LCD flat panel TV?
Kali asked:
I am looking at buying between a 40 to 50 inch wide screen flat panel television and would like to know the following differences between plasma and LCD:
-cost
-performance (longevity, clarity, gaming hook ups)
-track records (proven to last)
-weight (will it be able to hang on the wall with out major damage)
-best brands for plasma and LCD
-stores with the best deals
-do you recommend getting the extended warranty
-do you recommend getting the set up (I think it is a rip but want to know how easy each of them are to set up and hang on the wall)
-best for gaming.

I will be using this TV for gaming and watching sports and am looking for something that will show the details. I also would like something that would last longer since I will be spending a lot of money on it. Thanks in advance for all the help.

How long will it be before a pixel dies on a plasma or lcd screen?
Fred asked:
I see warnings about these types of tv’s of pixels dying, especially for plasma. That doesn’t sound very good; it makes these tv’s sound unattractive to me. I’m just curious is this something you can expect at any time? After the first year? What’s common. And do you think these tv’s are still worth getting?

How can I mount a plasma above the fireplace on a mount that I can lower to the proper viewing height?
Brian T asked:
I want to mount a plasma TV above the fireplace, but that height is too high for viewing. I would like the plasma to be able to be lowered when watching TV and then be raised to above the fireplace when I want to use the fireplace. By the way, I am thinking about a 50″ plasma. Any ideas?
